AN INVITATION

Every time I read the newspaper, browse the internet or check on social media, there’s yet another example of the inequities faced by so many – whether it’s people of color, women, transgender, or indigenous people. And it saddens me. I ache for true equality; I wish every day that we could truly see, hear, and learn from one another. That we could respect and honor our fellow beings and what they can contribute to the world.

I’m not going to pretend to have the answer to the injustice that seems so painful to remove because it’s embedded in our daily lives, but this one thing I do know – it’s important to TRY. It’s important to enter the difficult situations and have the difficult conversations. After all, deep wounds feel uncomfortable as they heal – and the inequalities in our world run very deep.

And it’s not about one political party or the other. Honoring the role that each of us has to play, and the gifts we each bring to this life has nothing to do with politics. These conversations and connections I’m talking about need to happen between people, not parties.

So I invite the conversation, the dialogue, the tough questions, and the hard-to-hear answers – and I encourage everyone reading this to do the same. As far as I can tell, it’s the only way to make real and lasting progress. Our weekly blog is written by CHA President and CEO Celeste Dominguez.
