Myth: I am too old to be a foster parent.
Fact: Minimum age to foster a child is 21 years old. There is no age limit. You’re as old as you feel.
Myth: I am not married. A single person can’t be a foster parent.
Fact: You don’t have to be married to be a foster parent.
Myth: I can’t be a foster parent because I don’t own my own home.
Fact: You actually don’t have to be a homeowner to foster. Many of our foster parents rent their homes.
Myth: Fostering a child is too expensive. I can’t afford to bring a child into my home.
Fact: There is a stipend given to help with the child’s needs.
Myth: It’s too much pressure to foster a child. I can’t do it alone.
Fact: If you foster with Children’s Hope Alliance, you’re never on the journey alone. We have 24/7 on-call staff to help anytime you need us.
Myth: I can’t be a foster parent because I get too attached.
Fact: We do get attached, and that is why in some cases the foster parents have the option to adopt.
Myth: Don’t foster children act out? I don’t think I can deal with rowdy behavior.
Fact: All children don’t have behavior issues, but if they do, we supply tools, training and support designed for managing behaviors.
